Overview

Shopping in Hong Kong goes way beyond buying stuff you need: it's a social activity, a favourite recreation, an after-hours release. Clothing, jewellery and electronics are the city's strong suits - all of them can be made to order, whether it's an Armani-copy ensemble, a pair of earrings or a PC.

TsimShaTsui:
There are many shops here mainly on Nathan Road and roads leading off of it. It can be hard to pick up a bargain, especially on cameras or electrical goods. However the Harbour City shopping Centre has a big selection of good quality clothing and some decent electronic stores.
The west of Midun Road has a great atmosphere, having once been a prosperous street of Hong Kong . The street gets very narrow and the shops can become crowded, however if you have patience you can find some cheap suits, leather shoes and leather bags. Around Jianafen Road , there are many foreign shops such as Indian and Japanese goods. If you walk north you will discover many cheap fashion shops.
Hanklou Road offers many shops selling tax-free goods

Hot to get there: MTR to TsimShaTsui Station.

Mong Kok and YauMaTei
These streets north of TsimShaTsui are much more interesting to wander around with many typical Chinese shops and markets. During the day you can visit Fa Yuen Street and Tong Choi Street both selling bargain-priced clothing, second hand electrical goods and an assortment of other items. There is also a Jade market on Kansu Street where you can buy jewelry made from the revered green stone, but be careful that what you are buying is genuine.
For some evening fun you can head to Temple Street night market where you can find reasonably priced clothing, CDs, VCDs and open-air restaurants where you can soak up the whole atmosphere. Fortune Tellers can also be found entertaining the locals and tourists.

Hot to get there: MTR to MongKok, Prince Edward or YauMaTei Stations.

Central
Many antique shops, sports shops department stores and alleyway markets can be found in the western area of Central around Hollywood Road , but the roads here are a little steep so you may want to be wearing comfortable shoes. For cameras and other electrical goods you should head to Stanley Street .

Causeway Bay
This is east of Central and can be reached by tram or by the subway. Many department stores can be found here including Times Square shopping mall with some big name designers and cinemas, and Sogo the Japanese-owned department store. Many cosmetics stores can also be found here.
